Mercury Retrograde - a Different Perspective!
Mercury, the planet that rules communication, thought, and transportation, reached it’s slowest speed yesterday and will be in retrograde status for the next three weeks in the sign of Sagittarius.
This retrograde cycle, which happens three (sometimes four) times per year, never ceases to elicit eye rolls and heavy sighs. Many of us personally experience the frustrations this transit causes every time it comes around — travel delays, miscommunication, and technological mishaps. But, here me out…wonder if we reframed our thinking on Mercury Retrograde? Instead of dreading it and preparing for the worst, wonder if we looked at it with a different perspective? Instead of always expecting this transit to annoy us and disrupt our plans, wonder if we realized—it's here to give our minds a rest and teach us something?
The most important lesson of every Mercury Retrograde period is to pause and reflect. When the speed of every day life slows down, we have the chance to tune into the calm voice of our intuition and uncover insights we might have overlooked. Reflection aligns with the core themes of this transit: reviewing, revising, and realigning. During Mercury Retrograde, energy shifts inward, making it easier to evaluate what no longer serves us and reconnect with what does. Instead of focusing on external progress, we’re invited to clean our inner “house”—organizing thoughts, emotions, and intentions.
Now through December 16th is a time to relax the mind - instead of starting brand new projects, revisit what you have left unfinished. Take the pressure off of yourself right now. Get organized, brainstorm, daydream - then when this period is over, you’ll be able to start anything you want with a refreshed attitude! If any typical M.R. issues do show up for you, take a deep breath and remember, a delay isn’t a “no”—it’s a “not yet.” And a miscommunication isn’t failure—it’s an opportunity to refine your message.
Here are a few journal prompts to help you navigate this reflective energy:
What patterns in my life need re-evaluating right now?
Are there any unfinished projects or ideas I’ve been procrastinating on?
How can I communicate more clearly and intentionally with myself and others?
How can I bring more mindfulness into my daily life during this time of introspection?
