My new E-book is here, but it Almost Wasn’t!
Last year, I had a calling to write an E-book. I knew that I wanted to write about something that would be helpful to a lot of people - especially during such a strange and turbulent time. I was drawn to writing a book about achieving career goals, knowing that so many people (including myself!) had really spent time during the pandemic evaluating their purpose and how they really wanted to joyfully make a living moving forward.
Career success is something that the majority of us want, but don’t always feel supported in or know how to even go about achieving it. As an Astrologer, I’m very aware of the basic yearly transits of the Sun and how it can positively affect the different areas of our lives. Through the year it passes through each of our twelve houses in the natal chart, highlighting, energizing and supporting the themes of each of those houses for a full month. I realized how helpful it was to me, to know that when the Sun passes through my tenth house (the house of career and public image) it’s during Gemini season (May/June). Every single year, I can use that time to really focus on my career goals. Then I thought, “This would be so great for everyone to know when the Sun is passing through their career house!” And so, The Best Time of Year for Your Career: How to Work With Astrology for Optimal Results, was born! Well, the idea of it anyway…
I didn’t know where to start at first. I knew that the content needed to clearly explain each of the steps involved to even find the tenth house for each individual, plus descriptions for the talents of each signs, what having certain planets in the tenth house meant, etc. I started to write and more ideas started to come to me, things I could add, how I could make it fun - like adding celebrities who share your midheaven sign! I worked on it for a chunk of time. Then it came down to editing and refining and making sure the details were thorough enough. This is where it got hard. The more real it became, the more I resisted wanting to finish it. I put it away for a couple of months. It was fine, I thought, I’ll come back to it - even though I had no idea when, but someday.
Then 2022 hit and I felt inspired again - this is a goal that I needed to accomplish this year! This E-book would be published no matter what! So I started to make edits and changes and right when I was feeling good about where it was - Mercury Retrograde hit! One of the downsides of being an astrologer is getting very obsessed with the placements of the planets every day and deciding not to do things based on certain alignments or planetary positions. There’s no way I could publish a book during a Mercury Retrograde period. Then, before I knew it, TWO Mercury Retrograde periods had passed and I still hadn’t finished the book. Knowing that I couldn’t keep hiding from it, I returned to the pages and to my ephemeris to see what days would be the BEST to publish in the weeks ahead. I settled on July 13th -the full moon in Capricorn, as the official publishing date. It was so fitting because Capricorn rules ambition and careers! Great, a deadline was set and I was going to get this thing done!
Once the book was done (beautifully designed in Canva - an online graphic design service), all I had to do was upload it to Amazon - super easy right? Not so much. I was unaware that for E-books, you can only use very specific formats - Canva did not have an option to convert the design into an E-book format like I had blindly assumed. So, my only option was to install Kindle Create onto my computer and re-design the book there. Another learning curve! I fought the urge to give up, believe me, I wanted to. I wanted to just delay for even more months…but I wasn’t going to let myself off the hook this time, I promised. I buckled down and transferred my text to the Kindle Create software, then had to turn the images I had designed in the Canva version into brand new individual image files to then be inserted into this new version of the book…tedious, but do able. Then finally, after several more read throughs and last minute edits, the satisfaction of completion arrived! I did it, I wrote my first E-book!
The last steps were the least painful - uploading to Amazon, setting up the book for pre-sale and then scheduling it to go live on July 13th. While I still question whether it’s “good enough”, I have accepted that I did my best for my first time and that I am happy with.
